Just hours after we reported that David Beckham and his team LA Galaxy were to spend Thanksgiving with American Troops in Germany, and play an exhibition match against FC Kaiserslautern on Thanksgiving Day while spending time with the Troops and their families, the tour has been cancelled.
The tour has been cancelled due to “operational hitches” according to Associated Press, with the need to focus on their next game against Real Salt Lake.
Galaxy President of Business Operations, Tom Payne said in a statement; “We are very disappointed to announce the cancellation of our 2009 Postseason Tour due to a lack of communication and performance by the tour’s organizer and promoter IMC Group, Incorporated,” released on Wednesday night.
“Unfortunately, IMC Group has not performed their obligations of the agreement thus far, nor do we have faith that they will be able to do so in the future,” he added.
David Beckham and American Landon Donovan helped Galaxy claim the MLS’s Western Conference title last Friday, and will now play Eastern Conference champions Salt Lake on Sunday in Seattle.
