You have two choices when this happens. Either cancel your order and spend your money elsewhere, or wait it out. Neither are very appealing.
But why isn't ordering goods online simply easier?
The main problem seems to come through pre-ordering something. Beat the rush! Make sure you've got your copy before they're all sold out! That sounds great, but I featured a product on my interiors website Domestic Sluttery and a reader did pre-order. The very same day. Now she's told she has to wait until December before her order is processed. Excuse me? What's that? I'm not impressed with that.
Then there's the "we have lots in stock" fib. When you find that actually, they've ordered some more, but that's not going to arrive for a while and you'll have to wait until you get your warm winter coat. But of course, your account has already been debited when you ordered. I don't like being fibbed to, and I think that money should only leave you account once something has been dispatched.
That coupled with the fact that you can spend ages shopping online only to find something isn't in your size, is really frustrating. Why not just be upfront about what sizes are left? It's not like we'll plump for another option. If you don't have the shoes in our size, we won't change our minds and buy some two sizes too big. It doesn't work like that.
The way online orders are done sometimes baffle me. Why do you have to wait a month for something you've pre-ordered? Why does the money often leave your account right away when some companies don't debit until an item is on its way to you? Why can't a shop tell you right away if something is sold out in your size?
Shopping online should be more convenient. For us and the shop. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get what we want, or wait around for weeks. And if something does go wrong, call us and tell us. As soon as it happens. Because if we have to call you we won't be as forgiving. We're not asking for a lot. just basic customer service.
