Star of Clueless and Girl Interrupted, and the recognizable voice of Luanne in King of the Hill, Brittany Murphy died early this morning of cardiac arrest. TMZ is reporting that Murphy, 32 years old, was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after her mother found her unconscious in the shower.

Paramedics performed CPR after responding to a 911 call made on December 20, 2009, from a home belonging to Simon Monjack, her husband. She was pronounced dead at the hospital of cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office will be conducting an investigation.
What is Cardiac Arrest ?
Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency. In order for someone to survive, CPR must be conducted within the first 4-5 minutes. A shock may be provided during CPR to re start the heart but if this is not possible other interventions using drugs may be required. Most people who develop cardiac arrest have no premonitory signs or symptoms.
In the USA coronary disease is the number one cause of cardiac arrest but in younger individuals other causes may include heart abnormalities, trauma, rupture of a blood vessel, over dose, a blood clot or drowning.
