Tony Gwynn announced today that he has cancer from the salivary gland and blamed many years of use of dipping tobacco items for the disease, for which he’ll undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Gwynn stated the doctors discovered the progress when they eliminated 3 lymph nodes and discovered a small amount of cancer within the parotid.
Gwynn, who is at present the head baseball coach at San Diego State, retired right after the 2002 season with 3,141 hits, 18th-most in main league history.
He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007 and was a 15-time NL All-Star.
