Terry Glenn arrested on auto theft charge

IRVING — Former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Terry Glenn spent late Tuesday with police after being arrested on suspicion of auto theft.

Glenn was booked in at 7:10 p.m. and released about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.

Luis Vera, Glenn’s attorney, said his client was trying to return a Chevrolet Suburban to National Car Rental at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport location when an officer pulled him over and said the vehicle was reported stolen.

Glenn returned from a Christmas holiday vacation in New York on Monday, and then had a friend follow him to the car rental office the next day, Vera said. The athlete had his young son in the vehicle with him when they were pulled over, Vera said.

Glenn, 35, rented the vehicle Nov. 10 after his Bentley was damaged in an accident, Vera said. Mechanics told Glenn his Bentley would be ready on Wednesday, according to his lawyer. National Car Rental retained Glenn’s credit card imprint and was charging him, but a National representative decided to report the car stolen, Vera said.

“This is the biggest crock of garbage I’ve ever heard of,” Vera said. “Some idiot at National did this - for what reason I don’t know.”

National Car Rental declined to comment on Wednesday, as did an official with the Dallas Cowboys. A representative with National Car Rental reported the vehicle stolen about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police report.

“We’re going to talk to National and see if we can get this all cleared up,” Vera said. “I think the DA has better things to do with his time than prosecute this.”
